Young Philanthropists Donate Money To Help Those In Need

Recently, four civic-minded young people made a generous donation to the Saint John Community Food Basket on Union Street.

Stella and Penelope Carmichael and Colin and Allison Walker are deeply concerned about the city's less fortunate. So, they dedicated part of their summer to collecting cans and bottles from around their neighborhood.

Together, the four friends raised $553.00, or the equivalent of about 110 ice cream cones, a small fortune for a young person in the middle of summer.

Each refundable can, or bottle is worth a dime in New Brunswick.

"They were just beaming when they presented the check," said Executive Director John Buchanan. "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much."

One hundred per cent of monies donated to the Food Basket go to helping people in need.
